What is a radiator?

Radiators are made from thin aluminum tubes. As aluminum is a good conductor of heat, the radiator’s design enables it to transfer heat from the engine to the external car environment. Modern cars are equipped with a water pump and thermostat beside the radiator. These two elements are tasked with regulating the engine temperature as it functions at very high temperature. If your radiator malfunctions or stop working, the following are some signs that should alert you before it causes irreversible damage.

How to tell if your radiator needs to be repaired or replaced

The temperature gauge always reads hot

This is the most obvious sign that your radiator may be malfunctioning and needs to be replaced/repaired. If your car’s temperature gauge constantly alerts you that the engine temperatures are hot, you need to have your car looked at. Our mechanics will look at it and tell you whether it’s a serious problem like a malfunctioning thermostat or low coolant fluid.

Overheating

If you can feel the engine of your car producing unreasonably high levels of heat, then your radiator may need to be repaired or replaced.

Radiator Discoloration

You can tell if your radiator is has a leak by examining it. Look for patches of discoloration or rust within the radiator. When a hose or the radiator itself has an opening, coolant fluid will squirt out and land on hot engine parts. Over the course of time, this fluid will cause discoloration and rust which can cause a lot of damage to the engine.

Low Coolant Levels

If every time you check your engine fluids and the coolant is always low, it may be time to have your radiator serviced. By bringing your car to our radiator shop in North Dallas, our certified mechanics will put your car through diagnosis which will let you know whether you need to replace or fix your radiator.

Coolant Leak

If every time you move your car from your parking spot you see a bright green fluid, your car is most likely leaking coolant. This is the fluid that regulates the temperature of your car’s engine. It stops it from becoming too hot or cold. If you notice the fluid, bring your car to our shop and let our certified mechanics have a look at it.

At our radiator repairs shop, we pride ourselves in giving our customers great quality services from certified mechanics you can trust.
